RUSSIA: Having won a contract to supply 90 trams to Moscow, Sinara City Transport Solutions has awarded UKVZ a subcontract to build the vehicles.
The Moscow city government awarded Sinara a contract to provide 90 single-section low-floor trams in October. While the company has plants in St Petersburg and Kaluga, on January 15 it confimed it had awarded Roskosmos subsidiary UKVZ a contract to build the vehicles.
No details about the model to be supplied were announced, although UKVZ has built a single four-axle low-floor Type 71-628 tram which is undergoing dynamic tests.
The Ministry of Industry & Trade had rejected Sinara’s application for a tram based on the Škoda Transportation’s ForCity design to be designated as a Russian domestic product, which is a requirement of governmental and municipal tenders.
