BELGIUM: Zagro Bahn- und Baumaschinen has delivered four Unimog U423 road-rail vehicles to Brussels transport operator STIB.
All four are equipped with the Zagro turntable rail guide for safe operation on tight radius curves.
Two of the vehicles are intended for rescuing trams. These have a front winch and box body including a hydraulic package for the rerailing tools, as well as electronics for controlling the tram brakes and a coupling bar to tow trams safely back to the depot for inspection. The bodies and tool compartment were fabricated by Gmeinder Lokomotiven.
The two other Unimogs are primarily designed for use in winter, and are fitted with a platform incorporating an integrated sand/salt spreader as well as a snow plough and a front sweeper. These vehicles are also equipped to tow trams.
