SINGAPORE: Land Transport Authority has taken delivery of the first of 73 Bombardier Transportation driverless Movia metro trains ordered for the 42 km Downtown Line, which is under construction for opening in stages from 2013.
The trainset was delivered two weeks ahead of schedule, Bombardier announced on October 12. A programme of testing is to be undertaken in Singapore before the vehicles are formally handed over to future operator SBS Transit.
LTA placed a €298m contract for 219 cars in November 2008. The three-car sets are being assembled at Bombardier's joint venture facilities at Changchun in China.
