CHINA: CNR unveiled its first 100% low-floor tram in Changchun on October 19. The development of a low-floor tram based on domestically-developed designs has been backed by the Ministry of Science & Technology.
The car has a lightweight aluminium body, a top speed of 70 km/h and bogies with independent wheels capable of negotiating tight curves. Floor height is 350 to 380 mm, providing easy access for passengers, especially the elderly, children and those with disabilities. Overall length is 30 m, with capacity for over 280 passengers.
CNR sees a market for trams in small and medium-sized cities in China, as well as providing feeder services to metro lines in larger cities.
