INDIA: Bombardier Transportation announced an order to supply Delhi Metro Rail Corp with a further 74 Movia metro cars on June 30. The €83m contract has an option for a further 40 vehicles.
Deliveries of the additional cars for the second phase of the metro will be competed in 2011. Following on from vehicles which are being built for Delhi Metro under previous orders, they take the city's total Movia order to 498 cars since the first contract was placed in July 2007.
The stainless steel 25 kV 50 Hz cars will be built at Bombardier's Savli plant in the Vadodara district of Gujarat. The factory was formally opened in November 2008, just 18 months after the start of work. Its first locally-built metro car was completed in June 2009, and more than 160 are now in service.
In total more than 3 800 Bombardier Movia cars have now been ordered worldwide.
