QATAR: Qatar Rail has awarded a Systra-Parsons joint venture a €170m E&M systems project management contract for Phase 1 of the Doha metro.
The scope of the contract includes design reviews, works supervision, testing and tracking acceptance activities. Lead consultant Systra will be responsible for signalling, driverless systems, rolling stock and depots.
Phase 1 of the four-line network is due to open in 2019. It will total 55 km in tunnel and 30 km above ground with 37 stations. Groundbreaking for the civil works took place in October 2012.
