SAUDI ARABIA: The Madinah Metro Development Authority has selected Egis and Systra to carry out feasibility studies and preliminary design for a three-line metro. The 12-month contract also includes the preparation of tender documentation for the future design and build contracts.
The Green, Blue and Red lines would have a total route length of 95 km, including 25 km underground and 48 km elevated.
The network is to be built in two phases and is due to open in 2020. It is intended to serve the several million pilgrims that visit Madinah each year, in addition to the permanent population.
