TAIWAN: Taipei Rapid Transit Corp has selected Thales to upgrade the metro fare collection system.
Thales is to roll out its Transcity platform throughout 2016. This which will include the upgrade of more than 1 500 fare gates at 120 stations, replacing contactless smart card readers and providing a back-office system.
This is the first step in a project to create a nationwide integrated fare system, towards which public transport operators and smart card issuers are working. This is being implemented as part of an initiative by the Ministry of Transport & Communications to improve interoperability.
