TICKETING: Fairtiq is rolling out a function on its check-in/assisted check-out ticketing app allowing multiple people to travel together. This follows frequent customer requests, and will enable groups such as families with children to travel on one ticket.
The ‘companion mode’ was tested in Switzerland and Germany last year, and is now available to all transport operators using Fairtiq’s technology.
The number of additional passengers is configurable, with users in Germany able to buy one additional ticket while in up to five people can travel with one ticket in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Everyone must start and end the journey together. The app takes into account any discounts that apply, such as child fares or the Swiss half-fare card and German Bahncard, to ensure that users are charged the lowest available price for the journey.
There are plans to extend the companion function to tickets for dogs, bicycles and groups.
