UK: Transport for London launched the TfL Mobile Ticketing App on September 7 for Android and Apple smart phones and tablets. The app allows Oyster card users to top up their cards, manage their accounts and view journey histories.

Pay-as-you-go balance top-ups and season tickets can be purchased through the app and added to an Oyster card after 30 min by touching the card on a yellow reader at a station. The app has been developed by Cubic Transportation Systems. Future updates will allow users to view journeys made with contactless bank card payment, and will allow cards to be updated using readers on board buses.

‘Pay-as-you-go with Oyster and contactless has delivered greater convenience for our customers and we are constantly trying to make further improvements’, said TfL Chief Technology Officer Shashi Verma. ‘As smartphones become an increasingly essential part of our customers’ lives, we are introducing this app to make the process of buying and checking travel products as quick and convenient as possible.’
